Black and White Christmas

Hello everyone!  Happy Monday!
It's time to remind you about our current sketch challenge happening at Inky Paws right now!  You only have a few more days to enter, so don't miss out!
For my card, I used some of the absolutely amazing new products from Newton's Nook.  I started with my background and took a piece of black cardstock and ran in through my cuttlebug using the new Holiday Foliage Stencil.  I absolutely love the new line of stencils Newton's Nook has released!  They are perfect for any background or card you decide to make!  So awesome!  While the stencil was still in place, I used my versamark ink pad and pressed it over the whole thing so I could then heat emboss all the details with white so everything is double embossed!  It's not really that noticeable..but it does give everything some really cool dimension.

After the background was embossed, I used my stardust glitter pen to add little dots to fill in all the spaces between the foliage, and then added little tiny dots of glossy accents over top.  Then I set to work on my focal point for the card.

I used the Pines and Holly Die Set to cut out a few branches and leaves and then did some quick watercolor washes over them to get them colored up.  Once they were dry, I layered them together behind a red bow cut from the same die set.

I double layered some vellum, giving the back layer a scalloped edge.  Then stamped and black embossed my sentiment from the Sentiments of the Season set before flagging the end and adding that behind my little foliage cluster.

Be sure to see the rest of the awesome inspiration put together by my team!  Then join in to win a Newton's Nook gift card!  Just remember to use Newton's Nook products!!

Sparkling Unicorn

Hey hey!!
Happy Monday everyone!!
We are starting a brand new Inky Paws Challenge today and this time it is a fabulous sketch!
I seem to be on a unicorn kick right now because there have been a lot of them on my blog lately :)  But hey, that's okay.  One can never have too many unicorns in their life right? :)
This sweet little unicorn is from the Believe in Unicorns set.  I love everything about that stamp set, which is why I purchased it.  But then I never got the chance to play around with all the fun images!  So this sketch felt like the perfect opportunity to do just that.

I started with my background.  A few months ago I did a background where I smooshed my ink onto my acrylic block, misted it and then just placed it onto my watercolor paper and let the water and pressure do all the work.  I loved that technique so much, I decided to do it again for this card.  This time though, I did the smooshing twice, heat setting the ink in between to try and keep them from mashing together and turning to mud.  I love that the texture of the paper creates some super fun designs in the coloring and that the results are different every time!

Once the background was dry, I took that little star in the stamp set and silver heat embossed it randomly across the panel.  Then set that aside to work on my images and the rest of the scene.  I used some Inktense watercolor pencils on my unicorn for some quick and bright coloring.  Then cut some stripes of glitter paper to create a super sparkly rainbow.  I also die cut some clouds and embossed one of the sentiments onto the largest one.  It just barely fit, but I was able to line it up in a way to squeeze it on there!

Then it was just a matter of putting everything together to fit the sketch!  I absolutely love how it turned out!  I hope you will join us for this months challenge!  Just remember to use some Newton's Nook products on your card!!

Triple Embossed Leaves

Hey there!  Happy Monday!
I hope everyone had an incredibly fabulous weekend!  Are you ready for our second week in the Fall Themed challenge over at Inky Paws?

I couldn't put the Falling Leaves stencil down so I created another card with it :)
I started with a grey piece of cardstock and added various fall colors in distress oxide ink over my stencil.  The colors muted back a lot on the dark cardstock, but you can still see the different tones shining through the embossing.  Once they were all inked, I coated the whole stencil with versamark and added some clear sparkle embossing powder and heat set that.  Then repeated the inking process a second time but used ultra thick embossing powder for 2 more layers.  The leaves now have great dimension and shimmer with all the layers of embossing powder.

Since the background turned out so awesome, I didn't want to cover it completely up.  So I opted to use a sentiment from the Shades of Autumn stamp set and embossed that on vellum with some liquid platinum powder.  Then layered the vellum onto some black cardstock and scattered a few sequins for a little extra shimmer.

Thanks so much for stopping by!! <3

Grateful

Hello and Happy Monday!
Welcome back to a new challenge at Inky Paws!  The challenge for the next 2 weeks is Fall Theme!  Which is perfect because man is it chilly outside!
I had a little stencil fun with this card.  I used the Falling Leaves Stencil and first inked up the smaller leaves in some fall colored distress inks.  Once they were all colored, I covered them in clear embossing powder and heat set them.  Then went back over top of the same area and inked up the larger leaves.  This gives me a ton of detail and leaves!  I went back over top of the smaller leaves with some glittery embossing powder just to help them stand out a little bit more.

Paired this panel with some patterned paper and then colored up some snuggling kitties from Newton's Antics.  Trimmed them out and mounted them along the top border of my leaf panel.  I heat embossed my sentiment onto some acetate and added that behind my kitties.  The finishing touch was a few clear drops.

I hope you will join us for this fun Fall challenge!  Just remember to use Newton's Nook products!!  <3

Magic - New Sami Stamps Release!!

Hi hi!!  Happy Friday!
I'm so excited!  Sami has created yet another fabulous release for you all this month!!  I'm sure you will absolutely love it...and these images are perfect for the fall holidays or just anything in general really!  Go check them out!
My card features the Halloween Magic unicorn and I love this girl so much!!  She is just so lovely in her wonky way!

We're also starting a new challenge for October to use brown or kraft paper.  So I printed my image onto kraft paper and used my Prismacolor pencils to color her in.  That was so much fun!  I've never colored on anything but white paper before, so the challenge of the brown base was unique and different.  And I love how it turned out!!

I kept the whole card simple because I wanted that image to shine!  So I matted it with some black glitter paper with a fun little die cut edge on the bottom and some woodgrain stamped paper underneath.  Then white heat embossed my sentiment and added just a few black enamel dots.

I hope you'll join us this month for our challenge!  Be sure to check out this new release and then join in the fun!  Just remember to use a Sami Stamps image on your project!!

Thanks for visiting! <3

Fall Leaves

Hello and Happy Monday!
We're starting the second week of our fabulous Halloween color challenge at Inky Paws!  I hope you have taken the time to join in for your chance to win some goodies from Newton's Nook!!
I decided to try something a little different for my card.  Instead of doing a wet on wet watercolor background, I applied my ink right to an acrylic block.  I really wanted a full background but didn't want to fuss around with it to much by painting it.  Applying the ink to the block allowed my to just press it into the paper and set it aside while the colors mixed and dried.  And it turned out so cool!  I love that the edges have a bit of dry texture to them still!

For some extra detail, I splattered a bit of water, shimmer mist, and white shimmer mist onto the background and set that aside to work on the leaves.

These leaves are just gorgeous!  They are from the new Shades of Autumn set and I love all the detail in them!  I put the stamps into my Tim Holtz Stamping Tool and then used several orange and red shades of ink to stamp them out and get all that fun color variation.  The stamping tool made quick work of all that!  Love that thing!

I trimmed all the leaves out and also added a little pumpkin from the Newton's Perfect Pumpkin set before head embossing my sentiment onto some vellum and adhering everything down to my dry background.  Finished it all off with a sprinkling of some black enamel dots.

I love this card so much!  I think the background really steals the show, but the leaves are that perfect touch.  Be sure to swing by the Inky Paws challenge to see the rest of my teams inspiration and the join in!  Just remember to use Newton's Nook products on your card!!
