Hello - Using Glitter Tape for a Background

Hi Everyone!!
Happy Friday!  I hope you've all had a fabulous week!  It has been so gorgeous here in Washington!  I was able to get out into my gardens a few times and got my veggie garden seeds started!  Woohoo!!

I'm here to share a card featuring the newest Sami Stamps release.
This is Heart Girl.  I absolutely love her!  She looks so comfortable and relaxed, just a perfect image.  I used my ShinHan markers to color her for this card and then used one of the colors in her skirt to make matching borders for the image and the sentiment.  I covered those with Wink of Stella glitter brush so that they sparkled a bit.

But lets talk about the background!  I used to be huge into using patterned papers.  But as my style and techniques have changed, the use of patterned paper has decreased a lot.  I always try to create something fun and unique for my cards and papers just don't give me what I want sometimes.  So for this card, I wanted something simple and decided I needed to make it myself.

I did a little shopping this week at Ben Franklin and found some fabulous glitter tapes there from Best Creation Inc!  So I decided to give them a try.  I picked up the black and white tapes but there is a whole range of colors to choose from.  The tapes are just slightly over a half inch wide.

For my background, I wanted to have varied stripes, so I took the white tape and adhered it to some cardstock so that it would be much easier to cut into smaller stripes.  Once those were cut they were really easy to peel off the cardstock again.  I lined up the black glitter tape with my grid mat and spaced the stripes about an inch apart.  Then filled in between each black stripe with a white stripe that is now 1/4 inch wide.

This background came together super quick and looks amazing!  The tape was so easy to use, the glitter does not rub off and the sparkle is gorgeous!  It's absolutely perfect for this card and image!  I encourage you to try this out!  Check out your washi tapes and see what ones will work together to create a fun new pattern for your card!!

Prayers

Happy Tuesday!
We're starting a new challenge today at Tuesday Throwdown - Create Your Own Background!
Our fabulous sponsor is DRS Designs, and they have provided the team with some awesome images to use!
I chose to use the Argyle Background image for my card:
I started my card by filling a word document with the argyle pattern so that it would cover an entire card.  Once it was printed, I blended a couple of distress ink colors in around the edges so that the center remained light to help highlight the rest of the details on my card.

I had a few roses (from Winnie & Walter's Elsa's Flora) left over from a large batch of cards I had put together for the Lasting Hearts Card Drive, so I grabbed a few of those and arranged them on the card.  Then used the Prayers die cut from the Hero Arts Prayers set and cut it out from a few layers of white cardstock.  I layered them together and then adhered the rest of the sentiment, which was white heat embossed onto vellum, under the 'P' and glued the whole thing down.

I really wanted to keep this card simple, so I skipped all the extra embellishments.  Honestly, I don't feel it needs them.  This card turned out perfect and I had enough supplies left over to get a second one made!  Love it when that happens :)
Be sure to stop by Tuesday Throwdown to check out the rest of the DT's creations, and then join in this fun challenge!!

I'd like to enter this card into the following challenges:

Thankful - New Sami Stamps Release!!

Happy Friday!
It feels like forever since I've done any blogging!  So nice to be back!
I had an absolutely fabulous trip to see my sister and little niece last week!  I didn't want to leave...cuddling with my niece was just too sweet :)  But I missed my husband...and while I had a nice week, he had a crappy week...so I needed to come home to support him.  But I look forward to July when I get to see my sweet niece again at my sisters wedding!!

We have a super adorable release for you today at Sami Stamps called Happy Hearts.  It's is so super sweet!!  I've used the image Heart Butterfly:
Dealing with the aftermath of Matthew's crappy week put me a bit behind on my projects...so this card was pulled together at the last minute for this weeks release.  I don't like not being ahead on my work...or at least on time.  But sometimes life just doesn't allow you to keep a schedule.

To start the card, I created a bright watercolor background.  I was actually hoping it would soften a bit as it dried since I thought it was a little too bright while making it, but now I kind of like the vibrant colors.

While that dried, I printed off and colored in the butterfly with the same blue I used on the background, but I used my Wink of Stella glitter brush as my paintbrush so that the whole thing shimmers!  It's really quite gorgeous!  Then I white heat embossed some swirls in the background and added black perlen pen to all the dot details of the swirls.

I framed my sentiment with some black cardstock and mounted it all onto my card base!  I really do love how this turned out!  Even if my brain wasn't quite into card making mode...it's always nice when something comes together perfectly.

We also have our challenge running for a few more days!  We're asking you to paper piece something!  Just be sure to use a Sami Stamps image, and join in!!

I'd like to enter this card into the following challenges:

Birthday Shaker - Sami Stamps Release

Hello Everyone!!!
I hope you've had a fabulous week!  This post is scheduled, but I can guarantee that I have been having a blast spending the week with my sister and smooshing my sweet little niece :)

I'm bringing you another awesome card for the most recent Sami Stamps release, this time featuring the Cute Heart Fairy image:
I made this card for my sister, and since she's already received it, I can share it with you!
I loved this fun little fairy, and had the idea to make her swinging through the clouds.  Unfortunately, the way I added the strings, the image wasn't weighted correctly so she just kept flipping over....but I kept the strings attached and just adhered her down to the background.  Still looks super cool :)

For the background, I die cut a whole panel of white with one of the borders included in the Mama Elephant Landscape Trio set.  Then took a little Tumbled Glass and Mermaid Lagoon distress inks and blended up the bottoms of each cut.  Once each stripe was colored the way I wanted them, I adhered them down to a new piece of cardstock, overlapping them just slightly so you couldn't see the cut lines and it was just a smooth seamless cloud background.  I love how it turned out!  Though it's a little hard to see now that the card is complete...

I cut out a stitched scallop frame with my Silhouette and then added a clear page protector to that cut out to give me a clear front for my shaker window.  The shaker is filled with all sorts of sequins and beads and a few heart sequins.  Just a whole bunch of happy, and I love that they can get caught in the clouds  :)

Once everything was sealed into my shaker, I adhered everything down to my card base, and added a little sentiment banner.  I didn't do any extra embellishing because there was so much going on in the window, I figured that was enough detail :)

I hope you all have an absolutely fabulous Valentine's Day!!!  I love each and every one of you and your constant comments and support!  They always make my day and put a smile on my face!!

Thank you so much for visiting! <3

Happy Valentine's! - New Sami Stamps Release!!!

Happy Friday!!!
Before I get to my post, I just want to take a second and thank everyone that has stopped by and left me amazingly sweet comments over the last several weeks!!  I've read every comment and each one has put a smile on my face!  I have been trying so hard to find time to get around and return the love to each of you...it just hasn't been working...but know that I am forever grateful to each of you that stops by my little blog :)

Now, I'm here to share a super adorable new Sami Stamps release!  This one is called Sweethearts..and boy they are!!

I've used the super cute Love is Sweet image for my card today:
We managed to get our office completely painted this past week, which is so awesome!  But I didn't think about how it might affect now having a blue wall behind my images...doesn't seem to be too bad but I might have to adjust some lighting a little to get a better picture :)

I've been super busy getting ready for my trip to Georgia to see my sister, so my brain wasn't really functioning while I put this card together.  I started by getting my image printed and colored in with my pencils.  Our new challenge for this month is Paper Piecing, so I did that with her super cute little outfit and then covered the hearts and her wings with some shimmer brush.  I thought it would be cute to have the hearts falling from clouds, so I die cut a few out and arranged them around the top of the cloud.

Then pulled out a few coordinating papers and made a couple banners for the background.  I finished it all off with a simple sentiment and a few liquid enamel dots in the corner!  Super fun and simple!

Be sure to stop by Sami Stamps to see the rest of this release, and then join in our challenge!!

Thanks for visiting! <3
